5 Things About Me

I took my time to respond to an invitation to write 'five things about me' by Chris.
Here it goes now (taking a break from studying):

  1. I love have developed this love for easy TV. The new series of Peep show started again. The second episode is tonight.
  2. I hate when people I don't know stress me. I also hate when people I know have that same effect on me.
  3. I am ambivalent in almost every decision I have to make, but for very few exceptions.
  4. I never know what to wear.
  5. I am an Internet junky. I mean it. Currently experiencing Internet problems. Not a good period.

Now it's my turn to invite people. So, if your weblog follows, c'mon, share, share:

Computer Holding Power

"The computer's holding power is a phenomenon frequently referred to in terms associated with drug addiction. It is striking that the word "user" is associated mainly with computers and drugs. The trouble with that analogy, however, is that it puts the focus on what is external (the drug). I prefer the metaphor of seduction because it emphasizes the relationship between person and machine. Love, passion, infatuation, what we feel for another person teaches us about ourselves. If we explore these feelings, we can learn what we are drawn to, what we are missing, and what we need. The analysis of computational seductions offers similar promise if we drop the cliche of addiction and return to the forces, or more precisely, the diversity of forces that keep us engrossed in computational media." Sherry Turkle, Life on the Screen, 1995: 30.

Lovely Inertia

Sento-me aqui e você dorme.
Sento-me aqui e você sonha.

Jealousy

Jealousy is not of green color.
Green is the color of calm.
Calm is late at night, no sound, no disquiet.
Disquiet is written in a book.
This book never mentions jealousy.
Jealousy there is quantified in status.
Status there is a matter of survival.
Survival is of color red.
Red is the color of passion.
Passion is the driving force of creation.
Creation has nothing to do with jealousy.
Jealousy must die.
Dead objects don't feel.
Feeling is not a matter of perception.
Perception is qualitative and obsene.
Obsene becomes the color black.
Black is rarely the color of our nights.
Our nights are long and endless.
Endless is the feeling of duty.
Duty is of color grey.
Grey is the mist and the season.
The season is changing.
Change is only momentary.
The moment is gone.
Gone is this anxiety.
I write my way out of this sometimes.
Sometimes I can't stop.
Stop.

Gloomy Christmas/ C'Mon C'Mon C'Mon

To have and to hold.

I got
a new dress
and a new sweater
a new necklace
and a new nail polish.
I hold
one phone
that rings and rings and rings and rings
and I have no idea why.
I have a small liquid plan,
a big aspiration
and two broken shoes.
I have a little Christmas wish
a huge New Years dream,
and plans for a houseparty.
Don't got much in the sense of
leaves and lives and gifts
and single portions.
Got lots in the sense of
bad dreams
and bad deja vus
and bad karma
which I am always trying to shake off.

The Hug - Thom Gunn

It was your birthday, we had drunk and dined
_____Half of the night with our old friend
__________Who'd showed us in the end
_____To a bed I reached in one drunk stride.
__________Already I lay snug,
And drowsy with the wine dozed on one side.

I dozed, I slept. My sleep broke on a hug,
__________Suddenly, from behind,
In which the full lengths of our bodies pressed:
__________Your instep to my heel,
_____My shoulder-blades against your chest.
_____It was not sex, but I could feel
_____The whole strength of your body set,
_______________Or braced, to mine,
___________And locking me to you
_____As if we were still twenty-two
_____When our grand passion had not yet
___________Become familial.
_____My quick sleep had deleted all
_____Of intervening time and place.
___________I only knew
The stay of your secure firm dry embrace.

Innocent When You Dream

Inspired by K

I am the youngest person doing a PhD in my College. I keep listening to superficial comic lectures about methods and the problems with methods and a lot of in-depth questions about ethnography and postmodernism.

I spend at least two and a half hours on at least four London buses daily.

I am addicted to MySpace. My boyfriend won't add me. He's teasing. Again.

I am told I should be attending English courses because I do not operate in English as a first language. But English was the first language I learned. I was two and speaking fluently in American English. I was watching Sesame Street and getting cans of Coke out of my grandma's dry cleaner's machine for fun. My parents were convinced it would be so hard for me to adjust to Greek.

I am learning Portuguese because I always wanted to learn as many languages as possible. Because I always wanted to see the world. Not as a tourist. I still do.

I am drinking tea in the mornings instead of coffee for a change. I remember when I used to drink 7 coffees per day. I remember smoking more than 2 packets of cigarettes per day. I drink one coffee per day and smoke less than 15 cigarettes per day.

I do to this cafe every day, even for fifteen minutes.

I have no money of my own and keep sending my CV to various research vacancies.

I am planning to go to Nicaragua.

I want to go to the WSF 2007 in Nairobi.

I keep bitching to myself about losing weight, but I love brioches.

I've been reading this book for two weeks now.

This is how it feels.

I Started A Blog

I started a blog eight months ago. I started a blog because I had to work on a presentation and I couldn't get down to work. I started a blog with the highest aspirations, those for which a lot of things are being advocated against. I started a blog and I stumbled across blogs about hunger, war, poverty and crises. I started a blog and I let it be more of a personal public diary of direct and public communication, a glimpse of some of the things, words, songs, videos and thoughts I have at my most relaxed or most annoyed hours. I started a blog and I feel I can't keep up to my aspirations. C'mon, the last thing I published was a Youtube-recently Google's new baby- video of a satyrus dancing to Michael Jackson. I am a bored individual, which can be boring at times, but I never meant to start such a channel of communication in order to criticize trash people create and put online. I started a blog to say something. I am still looking for that something to write. I am always looking for that something to write.
